          • Should we subsidize manufacturing jobs so the U.S. has more things to trade?

It seems like we don't make anything here anymore. Everything is made somewhere else. Should we subsidize jobs in manufacturing so that we actually make things here again?

            • Does a trade 'imbalance' hurt the US economy?

Trade imbalances are reported by the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) every month. Does an imbalance matter and how does it impact the US economy?

              • Some countries have no real comparative advantage do they have anything to trade?

Some countries have natural comparative advantages, e.g. oil wealth or wine making - others don't have these resources or simply aren't as good at manufacturing or the service industry - do they still have anything to trade that other countries would want and if not how to they resolve this?

                    • How does the hockey stick of prosperity correlate with the hockey stick of CO2 emissions

This prosperity comes at a price, but one that is not accounted for in traditional economic practice. Specifically, air, water and other natural inputs are considered to be "unlimited" in supply, hence are assigned no cost. But we know that not to be the case - witness the consequences of not assigning a price to CO2.

                        • Does globalization benefit some countries at the same time that it hurts others through outsourcing?

We have all heard about the outsourcing of American manufacturing and the weakening of the American middle class. Globalization is significantly involved in this process. So is globalization actually hurting the most advanced countries?

                                • How should we read statistics about wealth and income distribution?

Many Americans seem to believe that wealth/income are "unfairly" distributed in the US and thus call for redistribution. Politicians often use statistics to make this case convincing. Based on your letters at Cafe Hayek regarding distribution, I think a video on how and why these statistics don't show what they pretend to show would be helpful and enlightening.

                                  • The US, Korea, Taiwan used protectionism to get started, build industries, establish scale. Africa should do the same. Discuss!

The idea that trade barriers provide breathing space for an emergent economy is a popular but dangerous one: popular because on the surface it has an apparent logic; dangerous because logic is flawed and holds back development. Unfortunately, that is not understood by many well-meaning people

                                      • Who benefits when trade happens? Who is hurt when trade happens?

I often hear that trade only helps the party who receives money in a transaction (hence the need to "give back"), or that many trades are harmful to the "weaker" party in a trade or to the producers of competing products. Are these true, and more generally, who is actually helped or hurt in a trade?
